Interview with the Founders of Fettle Activewear!

Posted on 24 April 2018

We are so excited to introduce Fettle Activewear to the Movement Mecca Team! Here is our Interview with founders Peta and Hayley, sisters and best friends who were born and raised on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland...

What sets your brand apart from the rest in your industry?

Our own experiences in what it takes to reach the pinnacle in sport have taught us a tremendous amount. Sacrifice is not just a gimmicky word we use – we have lived it. We know what it’s like to be a female athlete at the top of her game - yet receive very little monetary or promotional rewards for the sports we pursue. We want to help change that. That’s why at Fettle each of our garments are named after a rising female athlete who will receive a portion of the sales to help them achieve their sporting dreams. We will also promote them by sharing their achievements and experiences with you.

What has been your biggest obstacle and how did you overcome it?

Probably the biggest obstacle was money.  A lot of our budget went straight to supporting the Fettle girls. But this will always be our core value and we plan to stick to it.

If you could have any celebrity endorse your brand who would it be? And, why?

Mmmm that is a tough one.  I suppose that is why we are so different. We like to promote and support athletes that aren't as well known rather than the other way around.  But if we had to choose a celebrity it would have to be a female athlete that is a great role model for other yonger girls, maybe someone like Laura Geitz, Ash Barty or Holly Ferling.

What advice would you give someone starting their own business?

Work out what your core value as a business is and never side track from that - always refer back to it when making any decisions about the business.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Our Sons!!!!  Ha ha.  We know you probably wanted a more galmourous answer but the truth is we are both mums (Peta to one year old Alfie and Hayley to 7 month old Knox) and this is our new morning alarm clock.  But honestly they are the best thing we have ever done and the early mornings are well and truly worth it.

Who in your life has been your biggest cheerleader?

Mum and Dad.  Our parents are amazing!!!  We are both very lucky to have them.  They have always supported us with anything we have ever done whether that has been on the sporting field, in business or just general day life.  If we could be half the parents to our sons as they have been to us we would be pretty happy.

What is your favourite quote or saying?

"When the going gets tough, the tough gets going"

What tool, tech or app are you loving right now for your business?

Instagram.  We know it sometimes gets a bad rep for different reasons but it has been an amazing tool for us to connect and collaborate with other businesses and it has been an excellent platform for us to get the core value message of our business out there.

What's next for Fettle Activewear?

We are currently designing our next range and on the look out for our next group of Fettle girls to support and promote.  It is always the best feeling to be able to support hard working, dedicated and talented girls that may never had that recognition before.

We hope you enjoyed learning more about the designers behind the brand!
