Adam Mansy's 5 week journey to qualify for Regionals!

Posted on 10 May 2016

Well what a 5-week journey or should I say 3 years... and here I am only a few days away from competing as an individual athlete at the Asia Pacific Regionals.

Looking back at the Open journey and the 5 weeks of stress and lack of sleep, I realise all that constant questioning around whether I have done enough this year and have I trained to the best of my ability was pointless. I had it in my head that I was going to be one of those men who was going to make it. I was going to be one step above the rest, and the moment I saw my wife cry when we realised I had made it all the stress and hours of discipline and time away from my family seemed to be worth something.

I am by no means the most talented athlete nor have I been blessed with perfect genetics, I simply applied one principle to my training and in most areas of my life. It is my belief that if you stick at something long enough, and work as hard as you possibly can, you will eventually become the best at what you do. CrossFit Regionals 2016 for me will be one of my biggest sporting achievements, and by far the most satisfying. Nothing has come easy for me on this journey; fitting in training, quality time with my wife and two young children, church commitments and providing for my family has understandably been both taxing and challenging to strike a balance.

Here are a couple of tips that I have personally used in my journey to date:

  1. Choose one main goal and set it in stone.
  2. Stop changing your focus when times get tough.
  3. To achieve what your heart desires, remember it may take years, so have a 3-5 year plan and don't stop until it’s complete.
  4. Surround yourself with people who are heading in the same direction as you.
  5. Put family first and make them apart of what you do each and every day.
  6. Remember, if you stick at something long enough (and work hard) you will eventually become the best at what you do.

Time stops for no body, so start to create the person you want to be today.
